Why the vacuum cleaner does not absorb well and heats up

Vacuum cleaner - any housewife is familiar with it firsthand. No house cleaning is complete without this appliance. However, over time, problems may arise in its operation: the device begins to absorb debris poorly or warm up during operation. You should not immediately give it in for repair or buy a new one - the cause of the malfunction can be trivial, and you can carry out the repair yourself.

Almost every vacuum cleaner has the same design: an inertial type air pump, which is driven by a brush motor. The pump is used to suck in the air flow, which carries away litter, dust, small debris.

Today, the following types of dust collectors are used in vacuum cleaners:

  • bags;
  • water containers;
  • cyclone filters.

After filtering the air in the dust collector, the air stream passes through a fine filter - it collects the smallest dust particles that can slip through the dust container.

If the vacuum cleaner does not absorb dust

The reasons for poor retraction of debris and dust can be the same as during overheating. In order to identify the problem, the following steps should be performed step by step:

  1. First you must disconnect the device from the network;
  2. The following is a general inspection of the device;
  3. It is worth making sure that the selected mode is correct - maybe the parameters just went astray;
  4. If all this does not help, then you should disassemble the unit: disconnect the pipe and brushes, then remove the case and inspect the inside (dust bag or container, filters, engine).

If a malfunction is found, it is necessary to proceed with its elimination.

Bag full

A crowded bag for dust and debris can be a common cause of poor draft of the vacuum cleaner: some older models do not have a full indicator, so you should regularly check the level of fullness of the bag yourself. When filling the dust bag by 70%, the suction power can significantly decrease or disappear altogether.

In the process of emptying, it is necessary to study the material from which the bag is made:

  • paper bags are disposable, therefore are only subject to replacement with a new one;
  • fabric bags can be washed in plain water, and after drying put in place.

If everything is in order with the dust collector, but the draft has not appeared, then you can proceed to the next stage.

Filter clogged

If the vacuum cleaner does not suck, then this may be due to filters. Any model contains 2 filters, one of which is used for fine cleaning, and the second is exhaust. If the exhaust filter has never been replaced, then do it now - it must be replaced every 50 hours of operation. The fine filter should be regularly cleaned or changed: you can use warm water to wash, and then dry thoroughly. Typically, filters are located near the back of the device.

Hose or brush contamination

A drop in suction power is sometimes due to a damaged hose or nozzle. First, you should carefully inspect the suction pipe and examine the place of its attachment to the body - the pipe may not be fully clothed or loose. If there are blockages in the pipe, it is necessary to clean them with wire. Next, you need to check the hose for damage: to do this, you can disconnect it from the device and put your hand to the inlet. If the draft is good, then the reason lies in the hose.

You should also study the nozzle - sometimes it can cause the device to malfunction. It is necessary to clean the brushes from threads, hair and other litter, and also check for patency inside. Bearings should also be checked for proper operation, because the strength of the air flow depends on them.

Device damage

To gain access to the main part of the vacuum cleaner, the housing protection must be removed. Typically, this unit ceases to function due to fuse blowout - you can check it with a multimeter. If the fuse is faulty, we select a similar one in parameters and install it in place. If the contact is broken, this can also cause a malfunction - we solder the damaged contact into place with a soldering iron. If there is a suspicion of malfunctioning of the engine brushes, then you should work very carefully - improper connection can lead to the fact that the device starts to work in the opposite direction and simply blows dust. If the winding on the coil is broken, you should prepare to replace the unit or purchase a new vacuum cleaner.

Each model has its own weaknesses. In LG models, with long-term operation, graphite brushes begin to deteriorate, and Samsung devices sometimes have insulation breakdowns of windings, which ultimately leads to interturn circuit.

Important! A faulty engine is practically impossible to repair on its own and to restore it will require the help of competent specialists.

The main causes of overheating of the vacuum cleaner

Often, the heating of the case occurs due to the filling of the dust bag with debris, failed components, as well as problems in the operation of the engine. It remains to be seen what exactly caused the unsatisfactory operation of the vacuum cleaner.

To determine the faulty node, it is best to use the recommended sequence of troubleshooting:

  • If the case is warming up, then you can disconnect the hose and try to start it again - if the engine case stops warming, then the reason lies in the hose or the tube itself.
  • Next, check the inlet of the vacuum cleaner - foreign objects can get there. After making sure that there are no obstacles, you can proceed to further actions.
  • It is necessary to carefully remove the garbage collection container - it may be a container or a bag. After extraction, you can start the device and see how it began to work.
  • Overheating can occur due to filters - for this they should be cleaned carefully.
  • If the above points are passed, and the vacuum cleaner continues to work poorly, engine breakdown remains, which may ultimately lead to overheating and automatic shutdown.

Important! Often, repairs can be made on their own and without special knowledge, but sometimes you have to turn to specialists.

Why the vacuum cleaner began to work loudly

To identify the cause of the appearance of loud noise during operation is often only possible by an experienced specialist, therefore it is recommended not to engage in self-repair, but to send the device to a service center. If you decide to carry out the troubleshooting yourself, then you should know that the most likely causes of excessive noise may be:

  • Excessive dust container. Usually this is due to untimely cleaning of the bag or dust container. As a result, there is a difficulty in passing air through the dust collector, which leads to an increase in the load on the engine and an increase in its noise. In case of excessive pollution of the filtration system, dust can enter the engine compartment and settle on moving parts. As a result, interruptions in the operation of the engine begin: it works "dry" and a hum and whistle occurs.
  • Failure of components. The defective part can only be determined by a service center specialist, therefore, if such a malfunction is suspected, it is better to stop attempts of self-repair in order to avoid unnecessary financial expenses for the purchase of a new vacuum cleaner.
  • Faulty engine - if the vacuum cleaner is relatively new, then engine factory defects may occur. If there is a warranty period, you should return the device to the store, and if the warranty has already expired, then contact the service center.

The vacuum cleaner vibrates and makes noise

Increased vibration may be present only on older models where metal fans are installed. Replacing such an element will cost quite expensive, so it is often cheaper to purchase a new vacuum cleaner.

Loud and unpleasant

Even with careful care of the vacuum cleaner, an unpleasant odor can come from it. And this may not be the fault of the manufacturer or the long life of the device - there are several reasons that can lead to the appearance of a specific smell:

  • The dust and litter that is sucked by a vacuum cleaner contain a large number of bacteria that, when propagated in a humid environment, are capable of emitting a specific smell. With the device turned off, there may not be a smell, but when it is working and heating, it is clearly detected.
  • An unpleasant smell can be produced when the vacuum cleaner is heated, poor-quality plastic, of which the body is made.
  • Sometimes the smell can be caused by the closure of some elements of the vacuum cleaner, which leads to their melting.

In some cases, if the vacuum cleaner buzzes strongly, does not pull dust and heats up, it is necessary to contact specialists. Only they can find the true cause of the breakdown. You do not need to do anything on your own, as you can damage the device even more.
