Table restoration

To buy new high-quality furniture, as a rule, high costs are needed. However, you can update your favorite product yourself. For this process, you need to take a little time, patience, and also use improvised means. Any, even inconspicuous element, can become spectacular and unique. This will allow him to fit into the new interior of the room. The restoration of old furniture is taking into account some recommendations and rules.

Over time, any wooden furniture becomes old and dry. But there are many more cases as a result of which the furniture becomes unusable. After all, not only old antique furniture needs restoration, but also modern furniture as a result of many factors, serious restoration work may be required. Tables are most often restored for a number of reasons:

  • Color changes due to exposure to direct sunlight, as well as color changes in furniture due to the natural process of aging.
  • Exposure to substances spilled on the surface of the table. Particularly affected by solvents, pigments or paints.
  • Scratches and dents that appear during mechanical damage and transportation of furniture.
  • Marriage during production. Sometimes it happens that a manufacturing defect is not immediately noticeable. Time passes and you have to repair the table yourself if the warranty period is out.
  • Traces on the countertop from hot objects. In this case, the tree may crack and even burn if you leave such an item on it for a long time. In some places, the veneer may even fall off.
  • The legs of the table can be beaten if you often move furniture from place to place or simply periodically move it.
  • Strong bend countertops. This may be due to the fact that very heavy objects were placed on the product.

But still, no matter what the cause of the defect, furniture can always be restored to its original appearance or make a new interior solution out of it. You can literally not recognize your old table. Professionals can always use unconventional restoration techniques, as well as special tools to create a unique image and interior.

When contacting professionals, you don’t need to go to the store first and buy the necessary materials for restoration work. As a rule, masters always have in stock all the necessary arsenal.

Who engaged in restoration of tables?

Restoration of tables, as a rule, is carried out by restorers, designers, woodwork finishers, designers and decorators. The activities of restorers can be divided into two areas:

  • Reconstruction. This term implies the restoration of things, giving it its original appearance.
  • Preservation, or museum restoration. In this case, a historically valuable object is preserved.

Depending on the interior item that needs to be repaired, their types of restoration work are also distinguished. The products are restored by specially trained craftsmen, specialists in the restoration of furniture and wooden products. Experienced master restorers can open their own workshops and engage in the manufacture and restoration of interior items.

Also, table restoration is done by furniture makers. They can also bring into any form any type of table: kitchen, coffee, billiard or writing. It all depends on the appearance of the product, on what massif it is made of and on how old the product is. It is also sometimes possible to make a total restoration of a thing, namely to replace some of its parts. For example, replace a countertop, legs or other items. You can also change the color and design.

Thanks to new technologies, you can design the look of the future things in 3D. And together with the customer to determine all the necessary changes and resources required for its manufacture. In addition, you can put the future table in the room and already know exactly how the updated furniture will look there. This process is done by interior designers.

The amount of time spent directly depends on the complexity of the product itself. The more chipping marks on the surface of the table, the more time, of course, it will take. If you restore yourself, without helpers, you can also spend more of your time. For a faster restoration, you still need to use the help of someone close to you.

If you restore the table in some original way, then not all materials may be available in the store. For example, self-adhesive paper with a specific pattern or design or acrylic paint of the desired shade. In this case, the recovery may take a little longer. Therefore, it is important that all materials and tools are at hand.

But on average, it is worth noting that restoration takes from 1 day to 1 week. It may be that the table needs to be covered with several layers of varnish or paint. Then you need to consider that it will take a lot of time for it to dry. You can also restore a table with your own hands at home.

Independent restoration of the table and any other furniture, of course, is possible. This restoration has several advantages:

  • You can track the work process yourself;
  • No need to take the table to the workshop;
  • You can easily make adjustments to the work process.

Before starting work on your own, you need to disassemble the product and follow the following instructions:

  • It is necessary to disassemble the furniture with a screwdriver.
  • Degrease the surface of the table.
  • We clean unevenness and roughness with sandpaper and a spatula.
  • If such a need arises, then we put in place visible flaws.
  • Leave the boards to dry.
  • Apply uniform tint using an aerosol. You can apply, for example, acrylic paint. Sometimes it is not enough to apply one coat. It is also worth remembering that breaks are needed to dry the paint after each coat.
  • We apply varnish and fix it with another additional layer.

IMPORTANT!In order for all layers of paint to lie evenly and without smudges, drafts in the room should be avoided.

For the period of painting the windows should be closed. You need to paint all the details separately. This method will allow you to more thoroughly work out all the combinations, as well as prevent the appearance of smudges.

In addition to applying paint, there is another method: sticking a film. Materials are taken very cheap. Also, after drying, you can treat the facades with a weak vinegar solution. This will help remove the fat layer, which will further interfere with the connection of the plate and self-adhesive.

You should pay attention to how bent the countertop is. Sometimes a countertop may not be subject to further restoration. Therefore, if it acquired the form of a "boat", it will be easier to completely replace it. Indeed, in this case, the functionality of the countertop is lost. Do not try to straighten the strong bend of the countertop. A press with which this can be done can both straighten and split the countertop. It is better not to perform this procedure yourself. Or entrust the table to the reliable hands of the restorer.

If the parts of the countertop are broken, then these broken parts can be glued using self-tapping screws, i.e. first drill, and then grease with glue and tighten the components with screws.

ATTENTION!Another important tip for those who are going to unscrew the legs at the table. You need to remember to mark the leg on the underframe so that you don’t have to look for a place where you can attach it back.

Table restoration can be turned into a real creative process. The most important thing is to understand for what purpose it should be repaired, where the product will be located in the future and what materials will be used.
