How to polish parquet

There are several types of machines for polishing parquet. Everyone has advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, you need to familiarize yourself with them in order to make a choice.

Parquet grinding machines

Grinders are very comfortable and efficient. But they have a drawback - a high price. Most often, such machines are bought by parquet installation companies. Ordinary people rarely buy them. If you need to polish the surface of the parquet, it is best to rent this equipment. But to make the surface smooth, in addition to the machine, additional devices are needed:

  1. Varnish and putty.
  2. Sandpaper.
  3. Paint roller and brush.
  4. Rubber spatulas.
  5. Scissors (to cut sandpaper).
  6. The key is to attach the abrasive to the device.
  7. Vacuum cleaner to remove chips and dust during grinding.

Drum type

Standard and common drum-type sanding devices will remove the deeper layers of the old coating. The machine includes:

  1. Drum. Its width is about 20 cm.
  2. Water pump. Here, chips accumulate which appear during grinding.
  3. Abrasive material. It is attached to the drum. Its purpose is to cycle the surface.

Tape

Suitable if you need to polish a large area, or for rough material. Due to the low center of gravity, the machine fits snugly to the surface. Thanks to this, it becomes easier to make grinding work.

Corner

This type is used if it is necessary to process hard-to-reach spots. Grinding is carried out by a grinding disk. It comes in several forms:

  1. Flat.
  2. Dish-shaped.
  3. Polishing.
  4. Cup.

Modern equipment installs additional features that make work easier. Among them:

  1. Speed adjustment.
  2. Maintaining the required number of revolutions.
  3. Soft start.
  4. Protection it unplanned shutdown (for turning off the light, there is a risk of damage to the device).

Disk

This type is more suitable for final sanding. They allow you to process the parquet before tinting and varnishing. The sizes of the machines are different, and the choice of nozzles is large. Changing nozzles, we can carry out grinding in hard-to-reach places:

  1. Near the outlet.
  2. Under the batteries.
  3. Near the pipes.

Attention! These machines are a good replacement for corner devices.

Vibrating

These devices are surface grinding. They are universal, and therefore allow not only grinding, but also the primary processing of parquet. The principle of operation is reciprocating motion. The speed of work depends on the frequency of vibration of the sole (the higher the faster). But excessive speed reduces the quality, so a low frequency is necessary for grinding.

Eccentric

The basic principle of operation is taken from vibration devices, but with the addition of a grinding wheel. Thanks to this, the performance of the device becomes higher. Movement and vibration allow a good surface finish.

Performance depends on the diameter of the vibration circle. As in the case of a vibrating device, the higher the vibration, the faster grinding occurs, but the quality is worse.

Reference! Also, the speed of work is taken into account (for parquet, slow mode is better).

Which grinding machine is best

It is impossible to say exactly which device is better. Everyone has advantages and disadvantages. The quality of processing is best with an eccentric device, but they are more expensive than all analogues. The most affordable is the drum, it is often polished with parquet, but the quality is lower than that of others. And it makes no sense to compare them with angular ones, since the latter have a different purpose.
