How to connect a keyboard to a computer

A personal computer is a rather complicated device. You can connect a lot of different peripheral equipment to it. But the keyboard and mouse play a special role. In fact, without them it is impossible to work comfortably with the interface. And without the "clave" and in general, in other cases, it will not work to turn on the PC. And although the connection, as a rule, does not cause difficulties, sometimes there are emergency situations.

Step-by-step process of connecting a keyboard to a PC

First of all, you need to determine the type of device to be connected. Currently, there are several varieties of keyboards, each of which has its own characteristics in connection.
The following types of input devices can be connected to modern PCs:

  • PS / 2;
  • USB
  • Bluetooth

What does the user need to know in order to properly connect?

Not every keyboard can be connected to a computer. Most often this applies to PS / 2. The fact is that such a port is available only on stationary PCs. Wearable computers do not have it. Directly connecting such a device to such computers will not work. Although one can find a way out of each situation.

But despite everything, you need to understand that not every “keyboard” can be connected to a specific PC. Sometimes, due to the fact that system requirements do not meet, it will be impossible to do this.

Using a USB port. USB devices are more common these days. We deal with them most often. How to connect it? Very simple. To do this, you must:

  1. Find a free USB port. Outwardly, it looks like a rectangle. On any PC there are several of them.
  2. Next, you need to connect the "keyboard" to the PC. After that, you need to load the operating system.
  3. Then wait a while to install the necessary drivers. If the automation failed to install them, you will need to do this manually.
  4. Drivers can be found on the manufacturers website, either on the supplied disk. Installation takes no more than a minute.

Wireless connection. The fact that many people know how to connect wireless computers to a PC, but that's not all. This is completely uncomplicated.

To do this, you must:

  1. Insert the battery and turn on the device.
  2. Connect usb receiver.

Next, install the necessary drivers. Wait for device synchronization. This can be done through the software that comes with the drivers and select the desired model from the list.

The keyboard does not connect to the computer: what to do

There are several main reasons why a computer may not see the keyboard:

  • there are no drivers on the PC or they are damaged;
  • need to update the driver version;
  • OS is not compatible with the device;
  • there are mechanical damage to the connector;
  • equipment malfunction;
  • damaged port;
  • PC is infected with a virus.

The keyboard is connected, but does not work, the lights are on

If after you connected the keyboard to the PC and it does not work, but the lights on it are on, it indicates that the drivers are not installed or are installed with an error.

  1. In order to fix this situation, go to the Control Panel, find the Hardware item there, look for the Keyboards item and remove your model from the list.
  2. Next, restart your computer.
  3. It may very well be that after rebooting the system will install the necessary driver on its own.
  4. If this does not happen, the driver will need to be installed from the disk supplied with the device or downloaded from the official website of the manufacturer.

When the keyboard is connected, the lamps light up and go out

If after loading the PC, the lights on the input device light up and go out, then this is normal. This has been verified. However, if after that the buttons themselves do not respond, then look at the BIOS settings.

It should have a USB Keyboard - Enabled setting. By default, it is off. If everything is set correctly in the BIOS, then you need to check whether the USB port works. Connect the device to another port, and if possible, check on another PC. If everything is fine everywhere, but the buttons do not respond, it is better to exchange the device itself.

How to connect a keyboard with a round input

PS / 2 devices are considered obsolete. Many current users do not even know what to do if such a device falls into their hands. In fact, everything is quite simple:

  1. We find the PS / 2 connector, it is located on the back of the computer and is a round hole, usually marked with green paint.
  2. Insert the keyboard plug into this connector.
  3. Next, you need to turn on the PC and wait until it detects a new device.
  4. The port for the mouse and PS / 2 keyboard are exactly the same in appearance. Their only difference is the color of the marking.
  5. Devices of this type can be connected both with the PC turned off and with it turned on.

With an adapter. The old keyboard can also be connected to a modern USB port, however, this will require the purchase of a special adapter. One end of this adapter is equipped with a PS / 2 socket, on the other side is a USB port. This is the only way out of this situation.

If there is a desire to use a modern computer in conjunction with an old type device, then you need:

  1. Purchase a PS / 2-USB adapter.
  2. Put the adapter on the plug.
  3. Find a free USB port on the computer and connect the computer to the input device.
  4. Turn on the PC.

There are no difficulties. Just keep in mind that the device may not start working immediately. It takes some time for the OS to detect it and install the necessary drivers.
