How to connect a USB flash drive to the music center

Many houses have old music centers. Often they are in working condition, but you do not turn them on, because there are no cassettes or disks, and USB is not provided in older models. Throwing it away is a pity, but there is no point in storing it. The center is enlivened if you connect a USB connector. A flash drive is inserted into such a port.

What to use to connect a flash drive

To do this, you need a special device - the USB-MP3 module. This chip is a bit larger than a lighter with a plastic case and buttons for control. It works with a voltage of 5-20 V. The kit includes:

  • USB connector
  • Voltage regulator;
  • CPU;
  • display and control buttons;
  • remote controller;
  • wires to connect.

Using the wires, the device is connected to the speakers, the battery pack and the sound amplifier.

Reference. Since the processor is already integrated in the module, the device reproduces the sound itself. The music center works as an amplifier.

How to install the module

First find a place to install the device. For this suitable cassette player deck, CD changer connector. You can independently make a hole in the right place on the body of the music center. The cable length depends on where the device is located.

5 wires are connected to the device:

  • 3 of them are the sound output: right, left and center.
  • The other 2 are power wires.

Wires connect directly to the music center board. Sound output connect to AUX connectors. Pre-locate the left, right, and center AUX pins on the board.

Power wires are also connected. to the power connectors on the music center board. So the module will start immediately when it is turned on. In order for the module to turn on only when switching to AUX mode, find on the center board the place that is responsible for the power in AUX mode and connect the wire to it.

Important! When connecting the module to the power wires, it is important not to reverse the polarity. The designation is written on the device - 5 V. This is a + wire. If connected incorrectly, the voltage regulator or the device itself will burn out.

How to make a module yourself

Despite the availability on the Internet and the price, this device is optional.

Important! Replace the module can an old MP3 player.

Often, MP3 players already have USB and SD outputs. They also already have voltage stabilizers. When powered from the network, the players operate at a voltage of 5 V. The boards of the players perform the same functions as the modules.

Module manufacture

  • To start make a case. For this, cardboard is suitable. It is easy to cut, but it is quite tough.
  • Now transfer the control buttons of the players from the board to the case. Remove the buttons, solder to each wire, connect to the board and put it on the case. Such a home-made device can not be controlled using the remote control.
  • When the case is ready, connect the player to the music center. Installs in the same way as a USB-MP3 device. See the previous section.

Important! Tightly fix the wire in place of the weld will help hot glue.

USB-MP3 adapters are sold on the Internet and in electronics stores from 250 rubles. Cheap models come without a display. The more expensive models have a built-in FM receiver, an SD card slot, and connectors for other needs. With this device, the music center takes on a second life. And you will get music for a summer residence, garage or home.
