What is 3G in the tablet

Modern man can not do without access to the Internet. Hundreds of services and services moved to the World Wide Web, starting with banking and ending with food delivery and entertainment. Even with each other, people communicate over the Internet. But the coveted cable or wireless Wi-Fi will not be found everywhere. What to do if in the hands of only the right tablet, and next to not a single open access point?

In this case, in some devices there is 3G technology. All smartphones, for example, support this technology, as it provides not only the Internet, but also the connection itself. However, the situation is somewhat different with tablets.

What is the 3G technology in the tablet

As mentioned earlier, all phones by default support third-generation communication technology. Without it, they simply can not perform their functions. But other portable devices are usually not bought for communication, and therefore do not always have the necessary characteristics.

Tablets, for example, have two options for supporting a mobile network:

  1. Built. Some devices are equipped with an integrated module that can work with mobile communications. To use the Internet on them or even make calls, as by phone, you just need to buy a SIM card and install the necessary programs.
  2. External But even those devices that do not have a module can catch the signal. True, for this they need also an external modem that looks like an ordinary flash drive. Usually modems use USB connectors, so there are rarely problems connecting them, especially considering the presence of adapters.

After connecting everything works like a normal mobile connection. All her work is based on the principle of transmitting information packets by radio waves. But this technology is heterogeneous and has several different families.

3G standard variations

The third generation of mobile technology has five IMT-2000 standards:

  1. TD-CDMA / TD-SCDMA, created in China.
  2. DECT.
  3. UMTS (aka W-CDMA).
  4. UWC-136.
  5. CDMA2000 or IMT-MC.

Of these, only UMTS and CDMA2000 are widespread. Both of these standards are based on CDMA technology. Her name stands for "code division multiple access." In it, the transmission channels have a common frequency band and different coding sequences.

The UMTS or W-CDMA standard was developed specifically for Europe, but soon became popular in other parts of the world. CDMA200 is more common in America and Asia. Although in the CIS countries it is present, but only in the form of radio frequencies with a range of 450 MHz. Other standards, not counting the Chinese TD-CSDMA, are not very common.

What is 3G technology for?

As can be understood from the full name of the technology ("3rd Generation" or "third generation"), it was far from the first. Previously, mobile communications were provided via 2G. The second generation mainly worked on the GSM standard. Then the connection was much lower quality, powerful and fast.

But with the development of technology, people have more needs. Over time, cell phones and the Internet ceased to be a rarity and old technologies could no longer cope with their tasks. First came 2.5G, then 2.75G, and eventually 3G. The third generation was superior to all previous ones, providing high data transfer speed, good sound quality and impressive coverage.

Despite the emergence of 4G format, the past generation is still relevant. Billions of people use the connection of the old format, but it’s too early to talk about the wide coverage of the new mobile Internet. Therefore, 3G is still needed by people for mobile communications and the Internet. After all, without Wi-Fi, you will not get far from your PC, and many people need access to the network even for work.

Important! New standards are gradually entering our lives. Some telecom operators are already starting to disable 3G-related services, replacing them with 4G. It is necessary to closely monitor this and in time to change the SIM card to support the new standards.

3G setup on the tablet

You bought a brand new tablet. We purchased a separate SIM card and modem for it, if necessary. What to do next? After all, you need to install some programs, somehow connect to the network, to finally go to the World Wide Web. The tuning algorithm is actually quite simple:

  1. First of all, connect a modem or insert a SIM card into a tablet.
  2. Go to the system settings.
  3. In the "Wireless Networks" tab, click the "More ..." button to open all the options and find the item "Mobile Communication".
  4. In the "3G Service" tab, you need to set the operation mode to "3G".
  5. Go to the "Access Points" tab and check if you have the right one. They should be configured automatically, but you can always contact the operator to help you with manual configuration.
  6. Add the desired access point and turn on the "Data transfer" option in the settings.

These instructions are relevant for all Android devices. The iPad is still easier - you just need to go into the settings of cellular data, enter the necessary information and activate the connection. On devices running Windows, and at all there is a separate icon of the Internet, clicking on which you can immediately enter data and enable communication.
